Tennis History Continued It was in France that the game as we know it today really came into being. In the beginning, tennis was very difficult as the game was played indoors, in large galleries. The ball had to be played off the ceiling and the walls.

Tennis History Continued The French created a leather glove with a handle on it, creating the very first tennis racquet. During the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, it became the highly fashionable sport of kings, noblemen, and adopted by Royalty.

Tennis History Continued In the 18th century the game of tennis began to become popular and spread to England. In the 19th century, the English built the first tennis club and the game of lawn tennis began to emerge.
