 “How are you?”  Health  Combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being  Never get sick?  Star athlete?  Wellness  An overall state of well-being, or total health  Making decisions and practicing behaviors that are based on health knowledge  Life-long commitment

 Health is dynamic and constantly changing  Healthy to premature death  Gradual or sudden changes

 Lifestyle factors o Identified habits that are proven to affect a person’s overall health, happiness, and longevity o Getting 8-10 hours of sleep each night o Eating a healthy breakfast o Eating a variety of nutritious foods each day o Being physically active for at least 20 minutes a day, 3 days or more a week o Maintaining a healthy weight o Avoiding tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs o Abstaining from sexual activity before marriage o Managing stress o Maintaining positive relationships o Practicing safe behaviors to prevent injuries
