Building Design Progress Dan Wilcox March 2012
Update General layout was finalised Presented to CERN civil engineers (Elena Wildner and John Osborne) to begin costing Additional changes may now be required based on updated power supply design
Design Presented to CERN Control Room Office Space Delivery Access Hot cell operator room Power supply room Horns and collimators Truck unloading area Beam Direction Hot cell Morgue Pump House Main Hall Ground Level Crane Beam dump building here
Design Presented to CERN Pump House Main Hall Beam Dump Building Decay Tunnel Ground Level
Points from Civil Engineering Meeting Pump house volumes are preliminary estimates. Shielding thicknesses not final – currently conservative. Human access to the hot cell will be via a shaft from the control room building. Shielding around the morgue can probably be reduced
Points from Civil Engineering Meeting Shield blocks inside the helium vessel will be supported in the same way as T2K. – Cut-outs in support module sides allow the shield blocks to rest on the helium vessel. Pictures from ‘Safety on J-PARC Neutrino beam line’, Y. Yamada, 2011
Points from Civil Engineering Meeting Access to muon monitors would be via ladder or staircase in the beam dump pit. (assuming they are required) Muon monitors
Effects of Power Supply Dimension Changes Designed for 100m 2, now requires 180m 2 Main hall width and crane span increase from 22m to 30m Presented to CERNChanges to accommodate new power supply
Change Supply room layout Saves 3m of width Major change to initial building design still required Possible Modifications
Move Power Supply Outside Main Hall Additional 3-4m of stripline length Additional pit and building required Possible Modifications
Stripline to Horn Connection Lengths (from horn to wall of power supply room); L1 = L2 = L3 = L4 = m
