What is an SBE ? entrepreneurial operation in a school setting managed and operated by students as hands-on learning laboratories provide realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction sell to consumers through a permanent location, a mobile kiosk or through Internet marketing effective educational tools in helping to prepare students for the transition from school to work or college

SBE Certification Certification Program was developed to provide recognition for outstanding achievement by school-based enterprises and to motivate SBEs to strive for excellence and to grow Started 2002 Virginia had 21 gold certified or recertified SBE this year (3 rd in nation)

SBE Changes for Page requirements reduced – Certification reduced to 50 pages, Re-certification reduced to 25 pages Re-certification is reduced to 3 standards which will rotate each year – 2015 standards are operations, distribution/channel management, and human resources management (still finalizing all the performance indicators as we are adding some in to beef up these topics for re- certification) Statement of Assurances will be an online form via the submission website – no need to sign and scan in the document Competition topic for ICDC – Human Resources Management

SBE Academy The School-based Enterprises Academy is held annually during DECA's International Career Development Conference and is available exclusively to Gold Certified and Gold Re- certified SBEs. Gold Certified SBEs are eligible to bring one advisor and up to three students to the Academy with the approval of their chartered association advisor

SBE Academy Competition 2015 SBE Academy Best Practices Presentation PURPOSE Gold Certified and Gold Re-certified SBEs attending the 2015 SBE Academy at ICDC will compete in a best practices competition consisting of a 10- minute oral presentation judged by business professionals. PROCEDURE Each SBE will make a best practice presentation on the topic of Human Resources. Participants will be evaluated on how well they meet the performance indicators, the use of visuals, and overall skill and performance of the presentation. You will choose from Hospitality/Tourism or Marketing Cluster Performance Indicators: To follow shortly
