3 How Do I Compete? The DECA Competitive Events Program provides a variety of competitive opportunities. Each member may choose the event which most closely relates to their career interest and their abilities. Competitive Events include testing only events, testing and role-play events, written presentations, team events, and chapter events.

6 Individual Series Events Participants take a 100 question exam over marketing concepts and industry specific information. The 2010 topic for each occupational category is the development of a strategic plan to enhance the current employee-training program of an existing business. The training program relates to characteristics such as training content, methods of instruction, selection of media used for instruction, etc. Using an existing business of their choice, participants will research the current training program and its effectiveness. Participants will develop a strategic plan to enhance the current training program.

12 Business Management and Entrepreneurship Events Students work in a variety of formats to create business plans for existing businesses or for the creation of new businesses. 16 Special Activities DECA Quiz Bowl – A state team made up of students from a number of schools competes against teams from other states. To qualify students test on marketing concepts and DECA information at the state conference.. Virtual Business Challenge –Students compete online through the National DECA Website (www.deca.org) the Virtual Business simulation. The Stock Market Game is conducted via the Internet and allows DECA members to test their skills against other DECA members in an online competition. Each participating team manages all aspects of the portfolio including stock selection, buying and selling. The goal of the competition is to increase the value of the beginning portfolio.

17 Georgia DECA State Only Competitive Events A series of competitions held only in the state of Georgia. Winners in these events serve as voting delegates or delegates in the leadership academies at the International Career Development Conference. These events consist of individual test and role- play events.
