Merseyside Sports Partnership 45 County Sports Partnerships Our Mission – “Working together to improve the quality of life for the people of Merseyside through Sport and Physical Activity” Our Priorities – Participation, People, Places, Partnerships and Profile

Merseyside Sports Partnership Sport England Fund NGB’s, Fund MIND projects. Sport and Recreation Alliance Campaign on issues affecting Governing bodies of sport and recreation. Supporting members to understand the Public Health landscape which includes Mental Health.

Merseyside Sports Partnership Athletics, Swimming and Mental Health England Athletics produced resources in conjunction with Sport in Mind to raise awareness of mental health and to provide guidance and support to athletics clubs, coaches and leaders. The British Athletes Commission (BAC) has set up a triage service for support, and has access to appropriate sport counselling, ensuring a route to access mental health support for elite swimmers.

Merseyside Sports Partnership Participation Encourage physical activity and social interaction …( Charter ). Provide opportunities for children and young people, adults and disabled people of all abilities ( MSP). Get set to go – MIND Aim – support people with Mental Health problems to take part in sport and physical activity. NGB’s and Physical Activity providers provide a local offer. Local delivery –training opportunities for coaches !

Merseyside Sports Partnership People Support ongoing development of coaching and volunteering ( MSP). Work closely with mental health sector to develop and share networks, resources and best practice ( Charter ). Merseyside – Coach Education programme – generic courses for coaches to improve their skills.

Merseyside Sports Partnership Places Access to a range of quality places..(MSP). Promote positive public health messages using diverse role models and ambassadors to reduce the stigma …( Charter ). Work Place Challenge ( encouraging employers to promote healthy and active lifestyles). Increasing opportunities for businesses to become more physically active, identify Work place Champions. Enhance Work place offer’s / Health at Work charter / open doors for NGB’s and clubs to increase participation !

Merseyside Sports Partnership Partnerships Maintain and develop the culture of partnership working..( MSP). Work closely with mental health sector to develop and share networks.. ( Charter ). Share and promote – the national campaigns. Help partners - understand the challenges faced by sports coaches and physical activity providers. Engage Mental Health partners in your networks and help them access sports and physical activity providers, clubs and coaches.

Merseyside Sports Partnership Profile Raise the profile of sport and physical activity ( MSP) Publicly promote and adopt mental health polices..( Charter ) Merseyside – supported the Merseyside Man Down Campaign driven by CALM. Rampworx - 3 hour work shops spanning 6 weeks designed to educate young people on mental health. Supported through CALM. Opportunity to have a go at Skate boarding !
