Indirect Bullying Getting another person to bully someone for you Spreading rumors, gossip Deliberately excluding someone from a group or activity Cyber-bullying

Teasing Teasing which is reasonable, related and respectful is not bullying. –Give and take –Playful Teasing is bullying when it is… - one sided - humiliation occurs

Collusion Is letting other people assume that you think as they do by not telling them you think differently. When you disagree with others but you –Remain silent –Laugh with them –Use put downs THEN YOU COLLUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Characteristics of Bullies? Want power & control Feel little or no empathy Will use and abuse others to get what they want Want attention and need an audience Know bullying works Often are jealous of others

Bullying Styles Reactive – they are emotional, has poor impulse control and reacts to an accidental bump as an act of provocation. Usually feel threatened and thus believes his or her aggression is justified. Usually they are very violent

Bullying Styles Proactive – non emotional but more deliberate. Have a goal and will achieve it.

Characteristics of Victims anxious Insecure Cautious Low self esteem May lack social skills Often feel isolated

Types of Victims Passive – anxious who lack self defense skills. Don’t think quickly on their feet and few people support them. Provocative – easily aroused. Impulsive and sometimes annoying who taunt their bullies and make themselves targets
