TEENAGE VIOLENCE By: Kory Coronado

Violence Behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Teenage violence is the violent actions teens do to make them feel better Teenage violence is everywhere and should be taken seriously

Teenage Violence in Romeo and Juliet A big one would be the feud between the two houses When Mercutio says “A plague on both your houses” Romeo’s anger when Tybalt slays Mercutio Juliet's disappointment when she finds her lover Romeo dead.

Teenage Violence in Romeo and Juliet cont. Both families were angry at the sight of seeing the two dead. Friar Lawrence's anger for the two families because they wont stop fighting Romeo’s anger after Mercutio is dead and he seeks out revenge on Tybalt.

Research Question How does teenage violence affect the lives of modern teens, and what causes them to be this way?

Research Topic Most teens need to get revenge to make them feel better. Even if it’s a really small deal they always got to get back at someone.

Issues that cause teenage violence Bullying Family troubles Anger issues Revenge Gangs Parent relationships

Bullying Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power.

Bullying Teens today Bullying now a days is EVERYWERE. There are 3 main types. Verbal, Physical, and Emotional. Now that technology is a big part of every teenagers lives. There is a lot of cyber bullying

Bullying in Romeo and Juliet There isn't much Bullying in this story aside from the two families bullying each other around. Romeo and his friends and family always tease each other but its never really “bullying”

Family troubles Family troubles could be. conflict resolution, sibling rivalry, marital problems, communication, divorce, death in the family, aging parents, parental abuse, child abuse, family vacations, etc.

Family troubles with teens today A lot of teenagers have family troubles with there parents mostly Most teens feel as if there parents don’t understand what there going through and usually don’t tell there parents what's troubling them Abusive relationships with parents is another problem

Family troubles in Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet both have family troubles. Juliet's parents want her to marry Paris but she's already married to Romeo Romeo Doesn’t tell his parents he's married to Juliet only 4 people know until the end of the story. Romeo, Juliet, the Nurse, and Friar Lawrence

Anger issues Anger is an emotion related to one's psychological interpretation of having been offended, wronged or denied and a tendency to react through retaliation. Everyone experiences Anger but some can get out of hand and get angry a lot (anger issues)

Anger issues with teens today Teens that have anger issues today, are usually stressed out a lot, annoyed, or have been bullied in the past They usually take there anger out on other teens making them feel bad aswell

Anger issues in Romeo and Juliet Romeo had anger issues when he avenged Mercutio’s death. He was filled with anger and didn't think before acting Lord Capulet (Juliet’s father) had a bad temper when he found out Juliet did not want to marry Paris. Mercutio and Friar Lawrence were very angry with all the fighting between the two

Revenge The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for a wrong suffered at their hands. Revenge is in everyone it’s a need. Sort of like Hunger

Revenge in teens today Teenagers always have to get back at someone for something. For example: A girl gets very angry at a boy for breaking up with her. So she tries to get him back for it. Revenge also has to do with anger in some teens

Revenge in Romeo and Juliet The main example of Revenge in the play. When Romeo gets revenge on Tybalt for killing his best friend Mercutio Also there is a Revenge between the two families but it is never fully explained (personal thought)

Gangs A gang is a group of recurrently associating individuals or close friends with identifiable leadership and internal organization, identifying with or claiming control over territory in a community, and engaging either individually or collectively in violent or other forms of illegal behavior.

Gangs and teens Some teens join “gangs” because they feel as if they have found a family. Gang activity Usually makes teens more aggressive and angry referring back to teen violence.

Gangs in Romeo and Juliet In Romeo and Juliet. The gangs would be the two families, Capulet and Montague. The two houses always fight and bicker with each other causing violence within the streets of Verona

Parent relationships How parents and children communicate, there relationships can either be good or bad. Some parents have bad relationships with there children because they feel they don’t care for them or they don’t talk much

Parent relationships and teens A good parent-teen relationship includes respect, understanding, trust, and concern A bad parent-teen relationship includes, misunderstanding, little or no trust, and no respect

Parent relationship in Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet both have bad relationships with there parents. Although Romeo’s parents are worried about his sadness. He still lies and goes off with Juliet Juliet has a bad relationship with her parents once she tells them she doesn’t want to marry Paris

Conclusion The answer to my research question is, teenage violence makes teenagers more aggressive, and emotional. Its caused through Revenge, Anger issues, Bullying, Family troubles, Gangs, and bad Parent relationships.
