The Cold War The Cold War was a ‘war’ involving the USA and the USSR in which no direct fighting actually occurred between the two countries, but tensions were very high. The USA and the USSR in 1945 were two very different countries with very different beliefs: The USA was capitalist The USSR was communist

The grave differences between the two countries existed before WWII even ended, and as the war closed it seemed they were the only two that had the capability to fight for world power. The Cold War officially started at the end of WWII in 1947 and ended with the break up of the Soviet Union in – Spanning 9 presidents (FDR included)
