PGL Year 5 Boreatton Park Wednesday 27 th April 2016 – Friday 29 th April 2016

Where is my child going? Boreatton Park is situated 10 miles from Shrewsbury The centre is set in 250 acres of countryside and is totally secure The centre has been running since 1979 For further information look on the PGL website at

Why is my child going? To raise achievement by boosting self-esteem and motivation To develop key skills To develop social education and citizenship To encourage cooperation and teamwork To promote health and fitness To encourage independence To have fun!

Where is my child staying? Children are staying in the lodges Closer to the time, children will be able to list a couple of friends with whom they would like to share Teacher’s rooms are spread out between the children’s rooms

Who will be accompanying my child on the trip? Miss Speed Mrs Dutton Mrs Pincho Miss Millett Mr Bull Mrs Lyon Mr Bowles Mrs Dean will come to visit for a day Please note: This is a provisional list and is subject to change.

What activities will my child be doing? We will know nearer the time which activities we are given, but some examples of possible activities are: Abseiling Climbing Zip wire Archery Challenge course Raft Building Orienteering Canoeing Quad biking Aero ball (like basketball on a trampoline!)

The activities Children will take part in activity sessions which last approximately 2-3 hours. Some activities are split into two shorter sessions All of the activities have been risk assessed beforehand and safety is paramount Detailed safety talks are given before each activity

Food All meals are provided at the on-site canteen. Range of hot and cold food, in addition to lots of choice and variety. Children should bring a water bottle which they can bring along to activities.

A typical day 7.00am – Wake up 8.00am – Breakfast 9.20am – 10.50am – Morning activity am – 12.30pm – Morning activity pm – Lunch 2.10pm – 3.40pm – Afternoon activity pm – 5.20pm – Afternoon activity pm – Tea 7.00pm – Evening entertainment 9.00pm – Bed

Who will be looking after my child? At the centre, the school will be led by two leaders who are responsible for organising the children, and making sure they get to activities on time. They also organise activities in the children’s free time The school retains overall responsibility at all times All instructors have recognised qualifications in the activities they lead There will be one member of school staff with each group

Will my child be safe? All activities have been risk assessed before the children start. A First Aid kit is with every activity and every member of PGL staff is First Aid trained. Children wear appropriate safety gear for activities, e.g. safety harnesses, helmets and life jackets in the water. A Night Manager is available throughout the night.

What if my child is ill? We will have your emergency contact details for your child. Children who require medication will be asked to bring it with them. Parents will be required to bring it to the designated teacher when arriving at school before departing for PGL. There is a 24 hour sick bay at the centre.

Estimated costs We have costed the visit at £195. This cost is dependent on the majority of Y5 children attending, so the final amount may change depending on the numbers Cost also includes coach travel and insurance Please note: Once you have sent in your deposit, you have committed to a place. You will be responsible for a proportion of the cost of the visit if your child is no longer attending. Any payments must be made by the instalment due date and are non-refundable

What if there is an emergency? In the case of an emergency please contact the school office and they will be able to contact the party leader directly Contact details will be provided closer to the time

What next? Letters will be sent out tomorrow with your child to inform you of the payment schedule. This is to enable you to spread the cost of the trip throughout the months leading up to our visit. Deposit of £45 must be paid by Friday 6 th November We need to know final numbers by this date so we can arrange appropriate staffing and so we can make arrangements with PGL. Records of payments will be kept on our computer systems. Bursary forms are available.

What next? Once all deposits have been received, ‘Form C’ permission forms will be sent home with your child. It is imperative that these are completed and handed in asap. They contain vital medical and contact information. Kit lists will be sent out nearer the time. Please feel free to ask any questions at the end, or feel free to pop in to see your child’s teacher.

Woodlands have chosen PGL for their KS2 residential visit for several years. We strongly recommend the visit, and believe that not only does it contribute greatly to your child’s personal, social and emotional development, and develop their independence, they also have a great time!
