Advanced Engineering Design and Presentation “My Smart Phone” Precision Measured Drawing and 3D Model

Performance Objectives Draw the six views of Your “My Smart Phone” Make precise measurements using a Vernier Dial Caliper 3D model and assemble Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Sketch and Measure 1.Sketch/trace/draw all six views of your smart phone onto the graph paper given 2.Draw all the measurements that you need to take 3.Use a Vernier Dial Caliper to take the measurements 4.Write the measurements down on the drawing 5.Refer to the examples given Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

3D Model Your “My Smart Phone” Use 3D parametric modeling software to create your “My Smart Phone” parts Assemble parts to match as shown in the following slides Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Draw the Basic Body and Extrude Make sure you are making it to the measurements you took with the vernier dial calipers! Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Add 3D Fillets as Needed Once the basic body is modeled = save it as Phone Body-ALL Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Draw the Profile Use Points, Arc, etc., to draw the profile Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Use the Split Tool Split the main body into Top and Bottom Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Split Parts Now you have two main parts of the body of the phone Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Change the Materials and Colors For example: Top = silver Bottom = white Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

How to Create a Shell 3D model – shell Set the size o For example: 0.001” Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create a Sketch on the Back and Cut Out Any Openings Each phone is unique Draw and cut out yours Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Repeat Repeat this process for button holes, power cable slots, audio jacks, buttons, and more audio slots; every phone is unique You may have to create an offset work plane so you can cut out this part Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Repeat Repeat process for all of the sides as needed Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

View with all the slots removed Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Make the Touch Screen Surround To make it easy, create a sketch on the top part and dimension what the insert area/size should be Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create a New Part and Build the Glass Touch Screen For example, Extrude to 0.01” Change material to plastic Change color to white Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Touch Screen Surround Looks Like This Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create a New Part = Touch Screen Draw to match the opening of the touch screen surround Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create a new part = Touch Screen For example: Extrude to 0.01” Change material to plastic Change color to black Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create Glass Cover For example: Change the color of the recessed area for the touch screen to see it better Give it a depth of 0.001” Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create Buttons Useful Hints: Check the dimensions of the parts modeled; make the buttons.001” smaller than the openings Create a sketch on the touch screen surround, offset it, delete the extrusions, other sketches, etc, and save it as Touch Button, Audio Button, etc… Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Buttons Modeled Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.

Create Sub Assemblies Assemble the phone into SUB assemblies For example: – #1 = Glass Screen, Touch Screen Surround, touch Screen, and Home Button – #2 = Top Phone Body, Power Button, and Volume Button – #3 = Camera Lens, Flash, Audio Button Back, and Bottom Phone Body Copyright © Texas Education Agency, All rights reserved.
