JLAB Leadership Team Inspiring cadet leadership through teamwork in the pursuit of knowledge!

JLAB: The Flame of the Torch The mission of Army JROTC is “to motivate young people to become better citizens” The JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl team is the quintessential JROTC team, combining Academic (SAT and ACT) and Leadership knowledge and skills into one cohesive team. JLAB contributes to the success of this mission by: – Encouraging cadets to improve their leadership skills through teamwork – Building effective communication skills – Offering a fun and competitive way to learn about what it means to be a leader

How does JLAB team compete? JLAB stands for JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl It is an online competition, culminating in a championship final in Washington, D.C. It IS a team, with both the on-line competition and opportunities to compete at combined drill/academic meets. Our team color is purple: the Joint color of the Military As team members, you have the opportunity to compete against Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force cadets

How We Prepare: JLAB normally practices as a team once a week on Wednesday afternoons, where we work together to learn about the values, principles, and practice of leadership Team members take ownership of specific focus areas, becoming “subject matter experts”, increasing the capabilities of the team overall. As a team, we have a lot of fun!

Why JLAB? JLAB complements classroom instruction— it gives you a head-start in learning about how to be a leader JLAB is a team competition: you work together as a team to arrive at an answer JLAB helps to prepare you for tests and inspections Become a master of Leadership Theory! Take your Leadership experience to the next level!

Benefits JLAB becomes a second family You learn how to work together as a team You develop problem solving and communication skills You learn how to lead These benefits apply not only to JROTC, but to high school, and beyond!

Why choose JLAB? I want to be the best citizen I can be I want to build my Leadership skills and learn how to apply them in real life situations I want to work together with a team doing something that will help me years from now But most of all: I want to look back on High School and know I had a good time and challenged myself.

Cool Things About JLAB You work together in a small team. You will improve academically, especially your SAT and ACT scores! You will learn about leadership and JROTC at a much faster pace than your peers = awards and promotions????? Goes on your resume as a club/team If you don’t have a lot of time after school, but still want to be on a JROTC team, all we ask for is about an hour a week! Cadet Josiah Valencia is the team captain. Colonel Strong is the coach.
