ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 WP4- Follow-up and monitoring of projects Dr. Joan Masó Center of Research in Ecology and Forestry Application (CREAF) Barcelona, Spain

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 General Objectives WP-4 is designed to ensure that ERA-PLANET projects are developed following their DoA, and assure the achievement of expected results and impact. The submission of Deliverables will be monitored and delays will be reported to the Coordinators and to ERA- PLANET Steering Committee to take action as needed. The progress of the 4 projects will be monitored having their DoA as reference document also with reference to their outcome in terms of outreach and dissemination activities. Also WP4 will monitor the level of communication between projects and with GEO to ensure the achievements of the common goal of this ERA-PLANET.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 The aspects that will be evaluated include: Organization of side and parallel events in the GEO weeks during annual GEO plenary and ministerial meetings. Participation in the relevant GEO tasks and in the GEOSS work plan symposium. Participation on the annual GEOSS European Project Workshops (GEPW) organized by the EC. Promotion and coordination of workshops between the projects in order to assure the development of horizontal exchange activities.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Fases In the start of the 4 projects, WP-4 will monitor the communication and dissemination plans and the data management plans drafts that will report on how the projects' partners will participate in the EC Open Data Pilot. An important activity is the mid-term evaluation of the project. At this stage, WP-4 will monitor whether or not and how the 4 ERA-PLANET projects are using a common set of technological standards and if these standards are interoperable between them and with the GEO Common infrastructure. In addition the involvement in and contribution provided to all relevant GEO Tasks and the degree of involvement in AIP will be carefully monitored. WP-4 will also ensure that projects' partners are actively participating to the European Network of Earth Observation Network ENEON activities that ConnectinGEO project is currently promoting.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 It is an initiative of the ConnectinGEO Project and the EC to Establish a European Network of Earth Observation Networks (ENEON) that: can provide opinions and evidence of gaps in observation networks with particular focus on the in- Situ segment Dissemination of products to better serve the growing societal needs for environmental intelligence can make a good contribution to GEOSS in-situ observations in the context of the GEOSS European HUB.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Task Task 4.1 Initial deliverables of the projects Task 4.2 Continuous communication between the ERA-PLANET consortium and the four projects. Monitor the quality of the deliverables and achievement of the milestones of the project Task 4.3 Periodic monitoring the progress reports of the projects Task 4.4 Data Management Plan

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Task 4.1 Initial deliverables of the projects Assign a person in the ERA-PLANET that will serve as a constant point of contact with each project coordinator. This person will attend to the kick-off meeting of projects and to other progress meetings. Provide a software platform to serve as document repository for the deliverables. Monitor the dissemination plans and the data management plans drafts that will explain the way projects will participate in the EC Open Data Pilot. Ensure the use of Open access in the scientific publications generated.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Task 4.2 Continuous communication between the ERA- PLANET consortium and the four projects. Monitor the quality of the deliverables and achievement of the milestones of the project Ensure that the deliverables are presented on time. Report to the ERA-PLANET Steering Committee about important deviations in the project’s timeline. Monitor the quality of the deliverables, review them and request modifications if needed. Report to the ERA-PLANET Steering Committee about important deviations in the project’s objectives work packages and tasks expressed in the DoW. Report to the ERA-PLANET Steering Committee about important deviations in the project’s objectives work packages and tasks. Suggest the participation in the activities of the European Network of Earth Observation Network (ENEON) and the GEO S&T stakeholders network.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Task 4.3 Periodic monitoring the progress reports of the projects Monitor the interim short reports that projects will submit to the ERA-PLANET every 6 months. Report to the ERA-PLANET steering committee about important deviations in the project’s objectives work packages and tasks. Monitor the progress reports and make recommendations on how improve the next period. Report to the ERA-PLANET Steering Committee about important deviations in the project’s objectives and timing stated in their respective DoW. Prepare a summary of the project’s progress reports to be presented to the EC. Evaluate the final reports. Prepare a summary of the project’s final reports to be presented to the EC.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Task 4.4 Data Management Plan Develop a Data Management Plan (DMP) to support the data management life cycle for all data that will be collected, processed or generated by the projects. This DMP along with Key Enabling Technologies will be adopted by projects.

ERA-PLANET KoM, Brussels February 2016 Deliverables D4.1 Initial report on each funded project (CREAF, month 18) Confidential D4.2 Mid-term review of funded projects (CREAF, month 36) Confidential D4.3 Report on project’s participation in the GEO activities, tasks, pilots, etc. (CREAF, month 54) Public D4.4 Final review of implemented projects (CREAF, month 58) Confidential D4.5 Data Management Plan (CNR, month 6) Public
