3. Summary Assessment of Progress (Plenary Doc 5) Rating: Integration and effective use of these different data streams from space and in- situ remain a challenge. Recommendation: Increase efforts to coordinate the provision, and improve the integration, of space-based and in situ data at global, regional, and national levels, including new data sources, such as sensor networks and citizens, and improve integration of environmental and socio- economic data.

4. Boards Consideration and Lessons Learned (Plenary Doc 8) Infrastructure Implementation Board (IIB) –While the GCI has been the main focus of this Section, as the most important element of GEOSS, there are other Infrastructure Tasks such as In-situ, GEONETCast, Earth Data Sets, Communication Networks, Radio Frequency Protection and others which are also important but less often discussed. –Increase efforts to coordinate the provision, and improve the integration, of space-based and in-situ data at global, regional, and national levels, including new data sources such as sensor networks and citizens, and improve integration of environmental and socio-economic data;

GEO Strategic Plan 2016-2025 (Ministerial Doc MS4) Societal Challenges and Opportunities –Earth observations from diverse sources, including satellite, airborne, in-situ platforms, and citizen observatories, when integrated together, provide powerful tools for understanding the past and present conditions of Earth systems, as well as the interplay between them. GEO’s strengths –a facilitator of policy-level dialogue on the importance and coordination of Earth observation systems (including ground-, air-, water- and space-based sensors, field surveys, and citizen observatories).

GEO Strategic Plan 2016-2025 : Reference document (Plenary Doc 11) Indicators: Percentage of identified high priority (in-situ and satellite- based) Earth observations, information products and tools that are either currently available or that providers have committed to deliver. Number of datasets that can be downloaded directly, or processed in-situ, through the GEOSS Portal.

7. Terminology In-situ = not all Non-space based = all observations excluding only space based observation? How about socio economic data or model-output data? Are they part of this task?
