Tips to Assist Students with EOG Preparation Ann Davis

Good Health Good Test Scores It takes more than good study skills to be successful on the EOG (End of Grade) test. Physical activity is important as well! So let’s look at the following slides that can assist you and your child with preparation for the EOG test.

Rest and Sleep Get your child into a regular sleep routine, and do your best to keep it. Most children need at least 9 to 10 hours of sleep each night. During sleep the brain takes a break and reorganizes input.

Breakfast Get your child into the habit of eating a nutritious breakfast every day. Breakfast can be a slice of toast and a piece of fruit. Your child’s body and brain needs the energy to get through the test.

Exercise Encourage your child to play outside, ride their bike, run around in the yard every day. Consistent physical movement increases oxygen to the brain which helps thinking and memory!

●Bring your child to school on time ●Encourage him/her to relax Reduce anxiety by reminding your child to do his or her best, but not with daily reminders about expected performance

The Quan Reading Strategy

Follow All Strategies Taught to be SUCCESSFUL! Use confident answers to previous questions to assist on difficult questions If you are stuck on a question, move on and return to it later Take time to answer all questions. A blank response is the same as an incorrect response

Encourage Your Child To: Read all directions carefully Skim selections to attempt at identifying the main idea Skim questions so that you know what to look for when reading the passage Use the process of elimination on multiple choice questions

Encourage Your Child To: Focus on one question at a time Avoid looking ahead to see how many questions to answer or how long the passages are Answering the questions in the booklet as well as on the answer sheet Make sure the questions in his/her test booklet matches the answer choice on the answer sheet
