Academic Preparation

Discuss your child’s academic performance with him or her – how he or she is doing in school Encourage your child to ask questions about things he or she doesn’t understand Work with your child on his or her homework Communicate with your child’s teacher(s) Encourage your child to make a commitment to do well in school and set goals Academic Preparation

Make sure your child eats and rests well the night before the test Make sure your child is on-time the day of the test Use flash cards to review concepts and vocabulary before the test Reduce anxiety by reminding your child to do his or her best, but not with daily reminders about expected performance Academic Preparation

Make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes every night. Ask them questions about what they read to help them practice comprehension. Work on practice reading passages together. Study EOG Reading Vocabulary words together. Skills to Practice at Home: Reading

Practice multiplication and division facts EVERY night. They should have them memorized. Review basic skills worked on earlier in the year, such as adding and subtracting with regrouping, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, finding patterns, etc. Go over your child’s math homework with them each night. Practice EOG Math Vocabulary. Skills to Practice at Home: Math

Test-taking Strategies

Read all directions carefully Skim selections to attempt at identifying the main idea Re-read if you did not understand Look back in the text for the answers Use the process of elimination on multiple choice questions Test-Taking Strategies

If you are stuck on a question, move on and return to it later Take time to answer all questions. A blank response is the same as an incorrect response Test-Taking Strategies

Practice Tests

Homework We will be sending home practice reading and math questions for homework beginning Thursday, March 29 th. Students will have one full week (and a weekend) to complete the practice work. It will be due the following Thursday, and we will go over it in class to check progress.

Proctors

Proctors Our school needs volunteers to proctor the EOG tests in various classrooms and small group settings. If you are interested, please fill out the form and send it back to school. You will be contacted by the office to schedule training.
