Catch the Next is replicating and scaling up the Puente model (based at UC Berkeley) in Texas. Puente is proven, scalable, & cost-effective. CTN is a non-profit corporation, founded as a 501(c)3 to promote college readiness and completion. Located in NYC. Target population: At-risk students entering community college, including Hispanics and first-time college-goers. Catch the Next, Inc.

Catch the Next Wins Gates Momentum Challenge for Academic Advising The Gates team selected CTN because: Mentoring/counseling builds community to support engaged student learning environments. Contextualized teaching: integrating culture into the curriculum. Collaborative approach breaks down institutional silos to facilitate student success. For its mentoring and counseling work in Texas, CTN was one of three national groups chosen to present at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2013, “What’s Next in Higher Education?”

CTN-Puente Collaborative Model : Breaks down institutional silos to facilitate student success

Accelerated Reading and Writing curriculum. Fall (DevEd-INRW 0304) and Spring (Credit-ENG 1301) taught by same professor. Learning Frameworks course. Counselors work closely with faculty. Each student has a volunteer mentor. Catch the Next expedites transition into credit-bearing courses We give students the tools for success in school and career.

Helps students develop professional networking skills. Develops students’ social and cultural capital. Emphasizes the value of “giving back” to their community. It provides students with caring adults concerned about their academic and career success. What Mentoring Does for Students
