Meet other first-time college students Learn what’s needed to succeed in college Early enrollment in First Year Experience

5 First Year Experience Three (3) linked courses Fall, Winter, & Spring quarters including: English classes: writing & reading classes through your first college-level composition course. Linked with: Additional college-level classes such as sociology, arts, psychology, economics

6 First Year Experience Why Participate?
Remain with the same group of students during your first year Earn up to 45 general education units in one year Learn from fantastic faculty

7 Puente Project English Instruction
English Writing (EWRT 211) – Fall quarter English Writing (EWRT 1A) – Winter Quarter – transfer-level course Exploration of Mexican American/Latino experience, history and culture

8 Puente Project Counseling
Puente counselor to prepare Puentistas for transfer HUMA 20, Life Skills in Higher Education – Fall quarter COUN 80, Latina/o Issues in Higher Education – Winter quarter

9 Puente Project Mentoring
Academically & professionally successful mentors from the community Provide resources for Puente students, family, and the community

10 Sankofa Scholars Program
Affiliated with state-wide Umoja Program Addresses retention, persistence and success of African-ancestry students although open to all students Enables students to see themselves within a positive historical and cultural context

11 Sankofa Scholars Program
Integrated instruction and student services Courses with emphasis on African Ancestry history and literature Counseling Mentoring
