SCOPE OF THERMAL POWER PLANTS IN INDIA SUBMITTED BY GUIDED BY SURENDRA KUMAR AHIRWAR R.L. SHREE MALI

 INTRODUCTION:-The function of thermal power plant is chemical energy of fuel is coverted into mechenical energy and after it the mechanical energy is converted into electricaal energy.  Electricity is an essential input in various sectors of an economy such as industry, agriculture as well as commercial and domestic sectors. In India, the electricity sector was a public monopoly and received high priority during the four decades of planned economic development in the country, before the onset of overall economic reforms in 1991.

 the installed power generation capacity in utilities inIndia has increased seven-fold since , reaching a capacity of 101,154 MW in Similarly, gross power generation in utilities in the country has grownnine-fold since , reaching approximately 500,000 million KWh in Moreover, the demand for electricity in the country has been rising at a faster pace(exceeding 9%) than anywhere else in the world, despite the fact that India.sper capita electricity consumption is very small (only 374 KWh in ,according to TERI, 2002).

 Efficiency analysis:-Efficiency analysis of coal-based thermal power generation in India 17Coal-based thermal power stations are the leading providers of electricity in India, followed by hydro,,thermal power plants have the largest share (more than 50%) of installed electricitygeneration capacity in the country, while their share in actual power generation in India iseven larger.

 OVERALL PERFORMANCE:- • Energy loss on account of planned maintenance reduced to 5.66 % from 7.54 %during  • The average duration of boiler overhaul and capital maintenance was achieved as 24 days and 53 days respectively.  • Average duration of boiler overhaul in private sector was lowest (18 days). No private sector unit was taken for capital overhaul.

 ASH HANDLING PLANT:- The scope of ash handling typically covers the design, engineering, manufacture, inspectionand testing at manufacturer's works, supply, packing and delivery at project site, unloading, storage and in plant transportation at site, erection, supervision, pre-commissioning, testing, successful commissioning, performance testing and handing over of ash handling plant of thethermal power project. Scope of work shall include all mechanical, electrical, C&I, accessories, civil, structural and architectural works to make the system complete.

 SCOPE OF WORK:- The works to be performed under this package consists of design, engineering, construction, leveling, grading, providing and supplying all labour, materials, consumables, construction equipment, temporary works, temporary storage sheds, temporary site offices, constructional plants, fuel supply, tools and plant, scaffolding, supplies, transportation, all incidental items not shown or specified but reasonablyimplied or as necessary for successful completion of the works, including Contractor’ssupervision and in strict accordance with the drawings and specifications, includingrevisions and amendments thereto, as may be required during the execution of

 SCOPE OF MECHANICAL WORKS:- The scope of work shall include the design, engineering, manufacture, shop fabrication, assembly, testing and inspection at manufacturer’s works and handling, inland transportation, inland transit insurance, delivery at site, unloading,of Ash handling system.  The equipment and materials to plant be supplied shall form a fully comprehensive ashhandling system

 COAL HANDLING PLANT:- SCOPE OF WORK:- The scope of coal handling plant typically covers the design, engineering, manufacture, inspection and testing at manufacturer's works, supply, packing and delivery at projectsite, unloading, storage and in plant transportation at site, erection, supervision, precommissioning, testing, successful commissioning, performance testing and handing overof coal handling plant of the thermal power project. Scope of work shall include allmechanical, electrical, C&I, accessories, civil, structural and architectural works to makethe system complete.

 FUEL OIL HANDLING SYSTEM  SCOPE OF WORK:- The scope of fuel oil handling system typically covers the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, assembly and testing at manufacturer’s works, inspection, packing, forwarding, delivery FOR site and handling with storage at site (i.e. taking delivery ofmaterials from carriers, transportation to site), fabrication (as needed), erection, trial run, testing and commissioning including painting protection of fuel oil handling system

 Thermal power plant,Advantages and Disadvantages Advantages:- 1. fuel used is The quite cheap. 2. Less initial cost as compared to other generating plants. 3. It can beinstalled at any place iirespective of the existence of coal. The coal can be transported to the site of the plant by rail or road. 4. It require less space as compared to Hydro power plants. 5. Cost of generation is less than that of diesel power plants.

 Disadvantages:- 1. It pollutes the atmosphere due to production of large amount of smoke and fumes. 2. It is costlier in running cost as compared to Hydro electric plants. 3.

Thank you
