New Reading Record To help the children in Year 5 organise themselves in preparation for Secondary School we have introduced a new school reading record. Children can use this to write homework and spellings. Please feel free to record your views/opinions within their Reading Record as a way of communicating with staff in school.
Literacy and Numeracy Two groups arranged according to confidence and support. Mrs Ashton and Mr Hook Group 1 Literacy/ Mrs Ashton, Mr Hook and Miss Plant Group 2 Numeracy. Mr Backrath and Miss Plant Group 2 Literacy and Mr Backrath group 1 Numeracy. Three morning lessons (Monday – Wednesday) One afternoon session (Wednesday)
Additional Support Springboard – Numeracy based intervention Comprehension Club – Reading intervention Parents will be informed if their child is taking part in Springboard or Comprehension groups
Homework Given out on Wednesday Handed in by the following Tuesday. Homework Club – Monday lunchtime 1pm. MyMaths.co.uk – additional learning tool Bug Club- Literacy HW What if they do not hand their homework in on time? ◦Children attend homework club on Monday lunchtime ◦If not handed in by Monday 3.30pm, children complete homework during their breaktime/lunchtime. Termly Creative homework – project based, independent research
Thursday Thursday morning ◦Two groups split equally ◦Swap between: Specialist sports coach – Nigel Gadd Forest Arts Music Lessons – brass and woodwind The children will perform in a termly music concert for parents, details to follow.
Creative Curriculum Friday- New Curriculum for 2014 Autumn term – Here we go to Mexico! Spring Term – Scandimania! Summer Term – The Ancient Greeks (For one year only!) We try, where possible, to organise a school trip or activity day each term to consolidate the learning undertaken in class.

PGL – Sept Every year pupils at the beginning of Year 6 are given the opportunity to attend PGL. PGL is a residential weekend taking place in September next year in Tregoyd, Wales. Forms are due out in October/November for year 5 to attend PGL in September 2014.
