A diversity approach aims to recognise, value and manage difference to enable everyone to contribute and realise their full potential. Diversity challenges us to recognise and value all sorts of difference in order to make our Trust a better place to everyone to work and be treated. In doing so, diversity also encourages understanding and allows us to be more aware of difference and helps us respect these differences for their individual merits.

Find out more online: Why are human rights important in healthcare? ● Every single person in the UK comes into contact with the NHS at some point in their lives, usually when they are at their most vulnerable. Therefore it is essential that human rights are taken into account when delivering services to ensure quality care. Putting human rights at the heart of the way healthcare services are designed and delivered can make better services for everyone, with patient and staff experiences reflecting the core values of fairness, respect, equality, dignity and autonomy.

Find out more online: Principles into practice A man with Learning Disabilities was living in a residential care home. He was regularly tied to a bed or to a chair for sixteen hours at a time, to prevent him from hitting his head and face, causing him physical pain and mental anguish.
