2 Content The Single Equality Scheme is split into sections, supporting use for training when required: Aim and key principles Statement of intent and meeting our duties Equality and eliminating discrimination Harassment and bullying Quality, monitoring and reporting Roles and responsibilities for staff What happens if the Single Equality Scheme is not adhered to Appendices Action Plan

3 Aim The Single Equality Scheme promotes:
East Coast College’s commitment in creating an inclusive college, where people are treated with dignity and respect Commitment to promoting and advancing equality of opportunity. Value and actively celebrating the benefits that diversity and difference bring to the College and our society. Awareness of equality and British values, promotes diversity within our community. Document use for CPD, appendices can be used together or in isolation to support staff knowledge and understanding of various aspects of the scheme.

4 Key Principles To provide guidelines in the provision of, and access to, the facilities, benefits and services that the College provides. To highlight and keep updated on current legislation on equality. To raise awareness with regard to discrimination and ensure that all members of the College community are aware of their responsibilities under the legislation. To ensure that all members of the college community are aware of equal opportunity issues, aware of the scheme and our actions to promote choice, opportunity and progression for all. To ensure adherence to relevant College procedures.

5 Pregnancy and maternity Marriage and civil partnership
We aim to go beyond legislation to actively promote equality, inclusion and value diversity across the community. 6 Key Acts Equality Act 2010 The act came into operation on 1 October 2010 with further public sector duties coming into force on April The College Single Equality Scheme and Action plan have been amended to reflect the current changes that affect the College staff, students and others in the College community.
