References: The Key to A Successful Resume Although commonly overlooked as being trivial, references are in fact a very important component of one’s resume. Make sure that your coaching is an accurate discription of your character, but is taylored to fit the needs of the position for which you are applying.

Choosing a Qualified Reference. Finally, it is important to choose references with appropriate qualifications. For instance, if you are applying for a Mechanical Engineering position, then listing a previous Pizza Hut boss might not be in your best interest. Therefore, it would be better to list a reference who has qualifications in a similar field.
