War of the Hills ■ Breed’s & Bunker Hill – Across the Charles R. from Boston – On a peninsula connected to mainland ■ June night 1775 – Brit. asleep when MA soldiers dug defenses at Breed’s Hill – 1 night to complete, had many troops, & trenches ■ Brit. were surprised-Thought Americans were lazy

War of the Hills ■ Breed’s & Bunker Hill had many troops & defenses – Brit. reacted to the progress – Sent barges of Brit. troops from Boston to Charlestown – Cannons blasted, drums pounded, & fifers played – Americans scared ■ Not well-trained ■ Europe’s best soldiers w/bayonets ■ Little gunpowder & bayonets – “Wait until you see the whites of their eyes”- To fire upon the Brit. ■ Ppl. who saw the battle never forgot the sights, smells, sounds, anger, & fear
