Evacuation, Severe Weather, and Lockdown Procedures

First of All…. Panicking will only cause chaos and confusion. REMAIN CALM and FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.

Evacuation 1 long tone Teacher will: Make sure all students exit the classroom Take roll book to check that all students have evacuated safely Calmly instruct students on what to do and where to go Be the last one to leave the classroom Leave classroom door open Take roll as soon as we are in the evacuation area Keep students calm and safe while we wait for the “all clear” from the office Students will: Exit classroom quickly and quietly Stay calm and stay in line Remain completely silent so that everyone can hear and follow directions safely Stay with the teacher whose class you were in If you are not in a classroom when an evacuation occurs, get with the closest school personnel you can find If you are in a 4 th grade classroom, you will exit through the glass doors at the front of our hall and go to the right, to the wood line where we have recess

Severe Weather 5 short tones Teacher will: Make sure all students exit the classroom and head to the safe zone Take roll book to check that all students have arrived safely Calmly instruct students on what to do and where to go Be the last one to leave the classroom Close the classroom door Take roll as soon as we are in the safe zone Keep students calm and safe while we wait for the “all clear” from the office Students will: Exit classroom quickly and quietly Stay calm and stay in line Stay with the teacher whose class you were in If you are not in a classroom when severe weather occurs, get with the closest school personnel you can find Remain completely silent so that everyone can hear and follow directions safely Walk quickly down the right side of the hallway to room 206 (last room on right; Mrs. Singleton’s) Go as far back in her classroom as possible and sit on the floor, criss-cross, hands in your lap. You will have to sit close together since there will be 3 classes of 4 th graders squeezing in with her class

Lockdown ”We are on lockdown” Announcement Will Be Made Teacher will: Calmly instruct students to move to the corner by the sink and remain silent Make sure the door is closed and locked Make sure all windows are closed, locked, and covered Keep students calm, quiet, and safe while we wait for the “all clear” from the office Students will: Move to the designated safe area—in the corner next to the sink (farthest away from line of sight and from doors and windows) Sit close together, criss- cross, hands in lap Remain completely silent so that no one can hear you If you are not in a classroom when a lockdown occurs, get to the closest classroom you can find and follow that teacher’s instructions. He or she will let your homeroom teacher know where you are
