3. What is Bullying? Leaving someone out on purpose

Hurting someone in any way – either their feelings or their body

4. How Can I Prevent Bullying?
Don’t fight back.
Ignore the bully and walk away.
Stick together.
Friends look out for each other.
Tell an Adult
Always tell someone if bullying happens to you or anyone else.

8. Some new laws about bullying:
Usually bullying is repeated mean behavior, but it can also be a single significant act.
Cyberbullying even off campus is considered bullying.
Bullying can be reported anonymously (mailbox or online).
Difference in power (doesn’t have to be older or bigger).
You report what you see.
Mrs. Velez and Mrs. Hailey will investigate
and make the determination.

15. When we have a lockdown, you will hear an announcement giving you instructions.

16. Lock Down Teachers will lock doors and turn out lights .
Teachers will cover windows with black paper.
Students need to be away from doors and glass.
Students should be out of view from outside windows if possible.
Don’t unlock the door for any reason. You are to remain here until someone comes to tell you “all clear”.
Remember to be “safety quiet”. – voice level 0

17. Lock Down from Other Areas
If you are outside: Line up and get to a level 0 quiet. Your teacher may receive instructions by radio to take your class inside, or to move to another area.
In the cafeteria: Leave everything, get level 0 quiet, listen for instructions for where you will be told to go. Your teacher will meet back up with you soon.
In special areas: Get level 0 quiet and listen for instructions. You may have to move to another area.
In the restroom: Get to the closest classroom.

18. Shelter In Place
Also called a “soft lock down”, this just means we can’t go outside. We can still move about the building.

You will hear an announcement.
Listen for instructions from your teacher.
0 voice level - Don’t talk!
We cannot release students.

Stay away from glass windows and doors.

21. Look at our school plan with your classroom teacher when you get back to your classroom!
Your teacher has maps that show us where and how we are supposed to exit the building depending upon where you are in the building. We also have a plan for the safest places to stay in case of a tornado.

23. FIRE DRILL In case of a fire, you will hear the alarm sound.
You should remain CALM.
You should listen to your teacher’s instructions carefully.

If in a classroom, follow your teacher’s directions. Get up quietly and line up at the classroom door.

25. If you are in the gym or other special areas, you should line up in a straight line with the rest of your class without talking and follow your teacher’s instructions

26. If you are in the cafeteria Freeze Voice level 0 Leave your lunch exactly where it is. Listen for directions. You will stand with your class and walk out in line. Your teacher may have to meet you outside.

27. If in the bathroom, or anywhere else, follow the nearest group outside

28. DON’T TAKE ANYTHING WITH YOU!
STAY IN LINE!
When you come to a class door down the hall from yours, wait until that class has come out before going on. Wait patiently at their door until they have left their room.
DO NOT GO AROUND THE OTHER CLASS!
This will cause a traffic jam in the hallway and could cause someone to get hurt!

33. Procedure for teachers:
Have students line up at the classroom door.
Assign a student to shut the classroom door when the rest of the class is out of the room.
Take your radio, class list, and keys with you.
Lead your class down the hall to their designated area.
If you are the last teacher out of an exit door on the building, be sure the door shuts behind you.
Check your class roll outside.
Keep your class together.
Return to the building in an orderly manner only after safety has been ascertained.
No using cell phones or radios in an emergency unless given the “all clear” to do so

34. An emergency plan letter will be going home with all students.
Be sure you have a flip chart either by your door or by your phone. (Let Mrs. Velez know if you do not have one.)
We will be practicing these drills throughout the year.
