NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory EXPRESS Logisitics Carrier (ELC) Operations Overview POIWG #26, August 2009 Ruxton Istre EO30 (256) Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited.

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 2 EXPRESS Logistics Carrier Overview  EXPRESS Logistics Carriers are mounted on the S3 and P3 trusses to support 2 science payloads and stowage for ORUs.  ELC-1 and ELC-2 are launched on ULF-3. ELC-1 will be located at the P3 Nadir UCCAS and ELC-2 will be located at the S3 Upper Outboard PAS site.  POIC will operate the ELCs

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 3 ELC Capabilities and Functions  ELC Capabilities  Structural mounting for exposed payloads.  Heater power for payloads and ORUs.  Provides dedicated 120VDC power to the ORU heaters that are default “ON” at power up.  Provides both 28 VDC and 120VDC power for heaters at payload locations  Operational power for payloads  Provides 120 VDC power for payloads  Command and data handling for payloads to ISS  Standard command interfaces as provided by the PL MDM  Health and Status pass thru from payloads to PL MDM  LRT pass thru from payloads to PL MDM for downlink  High Rate Data connection via the ELC to ISS for science telemetry

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 5 Increment 21/22 Operations Summary  ULF-3 Joint Operations Summary  During the ULF-3 Joint Ops, ELC-1 and ELC-2 will be unberthed from the payload bay and attached to ISS using the RMS and SSRMS.  After installation, power will be applied and PRO will begin a checkout of all systems on the ELCs.  MISSE-7 will be installed on ELC-2 during a Joint Operations EVA. PRO will support MISSE-7 activation and checkout.  PRO will support any ORU removal/replacement as required.

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 6 Increment 23/24 Operations Summary  ULF-5 Joint Operations Summary  During the ULF-5 Joint Ops, ELC-4 will be unberthed from the payload bay and attached to ISS using the RMS and SSRMS.  After installation, power will be applied and PRO will begin a checkout of all systems on ELC-4  PRO will support any ORU removal/replacement as required.

NASA MSFC Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 7 ELC Operations Lead Roles and Responsibilities  Certified PRO supporting console operations.  Develop and maintain ELC Payload Systems Manual  Participate in ELC meetings as required  Develop and maintain ELC URC inputs for each Increment  Support KSC and MSFC testing for ELC and sub-carrier payload testing  Reviews Software Interface Control Document (ICD) for every ELC each Flight  Support Increment Lead POD as required  Provides technical input for Ground Command Procedure development  Develops and maintains Phase I, II, and III training for ELC  Reviews ECRs, CEFs, etc. for ELC
