Visual Survey of HREP Ricardo C. Rodriguez POD Office Lead for HREP POIWG External Payload Splinter 25 Jul 2012 Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited.

Why do a Survey? Performed for documenting state of materials, FOD on sensors/optics and damage due to debris or other causes – Damage to STP-H3 VADER VED 3 was discovered after a survey using the SSRMS in January – Initial On-orbit Visual Imagery of the Material Science payload MISSE-8 very valuable for analysis of results when returned – Troubleshooting of RAIDS sensor door state open/close – Crew used hand-held Infrared Camera during EVA to document humidity damage to VADER Variable Emissivity Devices after installation

General Process For Getting Survey Work with your PIM to document survey requirements in Annex 3 and Annex 5. Will become a CSRD requirement and be prioritized. IPM/LIS work on the priorities. – 63. Perform HREP Survey using JEM External Cameras and the SSRMS. Work with POM to develop Chit to request and document the specifics of the survey. (Chit 8743 for HREP Survey provided later as an example.) HREP survey used a combination of JEM external cameras and SSRMS cameras. Other options are internal crew cameras, ISS external cameras, JEM RMS, EVA crew cameras, and visiting vehicle cameras. Allow plenty of time! HREP survey took 6 months of work (due to availability of SSRMS).

Chit 8743 for HREP (Sample) POIC requests using the JEM EXT cameras and SSRMS cameras to perform a photo survey of the HICO (Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean) RAIDS (Remote Atmospheric and Ionospheric Detection System) Experiment Payload (HREP) critical surfaces and elements. This survey will be very useful to the HREP payload as it ages on orbit to document the current state of the critical payload surfaces and elements in the Beginning- of-Life period. This documentation will also be very useful as HREP approaches and eventually reaches End-of- Life. The mission period of HREP is currently 5 years. POIC will request additional surveys similar to this one (via RRF at the RIP or via Annex 5 PTP update) once per year and at End-of-Life. See the attached HREP Payload Survey document for specific survey points and equipment to view each. See attached documents in zip file for detailed survey information. Please reference Rev. C except for regular location for the HICO Lens Slot specified as camera location 6 in Rev. B. [(XC, YC, ZC)=(672.00, 0.00, 1387.40)] since locations 6a and 6b in Rev. C are backups. {Updated per SSIPC request.} POIC requests that the survey be performed during July and August 2010. POIC requests an assessment of these dates and, if not feasible, an estimate of the earliest date that SSIPC and SSRMS could support the survey. POIC also requests that SSIPC and MOD/ROBO provide an estimate of crew time required with the assumption that NASA Utilization Time will be used. Actions: SSIPC: review, provide crew time estimate and schedule estimate, and concur MOD/ROBO: review, provide crew time and schedule estimate, and concur IMC: concur

Overview of HREP Survey The units for the survey points provided in the previous two attachments (HREP Camera Survey Locations RevB and C) are given in mm. An attachment is a reference for the Payload Coordinate System at EFU6 and the origin is located at (X, Y, Z, P, Y, R) = (1001.33, -1647.4, 691.76, -180.0, 0.0, -180.0) [cm/deg] per SSACS. Attached list contains the detailed descriptions for each location based on discussion notes between HREP team and KIBOTT. Per the latest coordination results, the survey points 3, 5 thru 7 will be surveyed by SSRMS, the points 1, 2, 4, 9 and 10 will be done by JEM EXT A/EF A cameras and P1 Lower Outboard camera will cover the point 8 survey. See drawing HREP CAMERA SURVEY LOCATIONS REV. B for a description of the HREP Camera survey locations.
