MILK NEEDS TO BE ELIMINATED FROM THE HUMAN DIET BY: MRS. JUDD

BACKGROUND ON TOPIC PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DRINKING MILK FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS, BUT IN RECENT YEARS HEALTH EXPERTS HAVE DEBATED WHETHER MILK IS HEALTHY FOR THE HUMAN BODY OR NOT. SOME PEOPLE FEEL IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ONE’S DIET, WHILE OTHERS BELIEVE IT IS NOT MEANT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

MY CLAIM: COW’S MILK IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO ONE’S HEALTH, AND MAY EVEN BE DETRIMENTAL TO HUMANS DAIRY IS HARD TO DIGEST FOR MANY MILK MAY ACTUALLY WEAKEN BONES THE NUTRIENTS FOUND IN MILK ARE IN PLANTS

WE’VE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD TO DRINK MILK FOR OUR GROWING BONES… AMERICAN WOMEN AGED OVER 50 HAVE ONE OF THE HIGHEST RATES OF HIP FRACTURES IN THE WORLD (CAMPBELL) AMERICA IS ALSO ONE OF THE HIGHEST CONSUMING DAIRY COUNTRIES ANIMAL PROTEIN CAUSES METABOLIC ACID AND THE BODY PULLS CALCIUM FROM BONES TO HELP NEUTRALIZE THIS ACID (CAMPBELL)

COW’S MILK IS NOT MEANT FOR HUMANS WE LOSE LACTASE ENZYMES AFTER OUR TODDLER YEARS TO BREAK DOWN THE LACTOSE IN MILK (WEISE). HUMAN BREAST MILK WAS DESIGNED FOR HUMAN BABIES, JUST AS COW’S BREAST MILK WAS DESIGNED FOR BABY CALVES MANY PEOPLE SUFFER FROM DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS WITH DAIRY BECAUSE THEIR BODY CANNOT BREAK DOWN LACTOSE (WEISE).

PROTEIN IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE IN SO MANY PLANTS (HOW DO YOU SUPPOSE THE COW GOT ITS PROTEIN?…PLANTS) REMEMBER THIS TYPE OF PROTEIN IS CAUSING YOUR BODY TO USE EXTRA CALCIUM RESERVES TO NEUTRALIZE METABOLIC ACID PROTEIN IS FOUND IN SO MANY OTHER FOODS---BEANS, WHOLE GRAINS, FRUITS, AND VEGETABLES (MANGELS).

PRETTY MUCH EVERY PLANT HAS A TRACE OF PROTEIN---LEGUMES, GRAINS, NUTS AND SEEDS TEND TO HAVE MORE GRAMS PER SERVING

PLANTS ALSO HAVE CALCIUM…ONCE AGAIN, HOW DO YOU SUPPOSE THE COWS GOT THEIR CALCIUM? “BECAUSE OF HEAVY PROMOTION BY THE AMERICAN DAIRY INDUSTRY, THE PUBLIC OFTEN BELIEVES THAT COW’S MILK IS THE SOLE SOURCE OF CALCIUM. HOWEVER, OTHER EXCELLENT SOURCES OF CALCIUM EXIST” (MANGELS).

MORE PLANTS WITH CALCIUM…THE LIST GOES ON AND ON

COUNTERCLAIM MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THEY NEED MILK TO SURVIVE LIFE. THEY ARGUE THAT WITHOUT MILK THEY WILL BE DEFICIENT IN NUTRIENTS. NANCY RODRIGUEZ, A NUTRITIONIST PROFESSOR, ARGUES THAT “…CONTRARY TO MY OPPONENTS ASSERTIONS (T. COLIN CAMPBELL) DAIRY’S ROLE IN STRENGTHENING BONES HAS LONG BEEN ESTABLISHED…GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE GLOBE ENCOURAGE DAILY CONSUMPTION OF DAIRY FOODS TO PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH AND HELP PREVENT DISEASE.”

REBUTTAL ALTHOUGH THERE ACTUALLY ARE NUTRIENTS IN MILK, SUCH AS PROTEIN, CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS, THE BODY DOES NOT ABSORB THEM PROPERLY AS MENTIONED BEFORE. THE BODY GETS TOO MUCH METABOLIC ACID BUILT UP AND TRIES TO NEUTRALIZE IT BY PULLING CALCIUM RESERVES FROM THE BONES. THIS IN TURN MAY CAUSE BONES TO WEAKEN INSTEAD OF GETTING STRONGER, ACCORDING TO T. COLIN CAMPBELL, WHO HAS STUDIED THE SCIENCE BEHIND MEAT AND DAIRY FOR OVER 50 YEARS NOW. HE SAYS, “THE DIARY INDUSTRY HAS LONG PROMOTED THE MYTH THAT MILK…PROMOTES INCREASED BONE HEALTH—BUT THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE…ACCORDING TO YALE AND HARVARD UNIVERSTIY RESEARCH GROUPS.” ALSO, IF MILK WAS SO GOOD FOR OUR BODIES, WHY WOULD IT BE SO HARD TO DIGEST? ABC NEWS POINTED OUT THAT 60% OF ADULTS CANNOT DIGEST IT (WEISE).
