No Barriers - Music Video
Presentation transcript:

Idea/synopsis My idea is to do a live performance music video for the song Lithium by Nirvana. The video will be shot in black & white as well as including split screen and colour correction whilst maintaining, a live performance for the video. I will storyboard my idea with timings for which camera should focus on which video aspect. The tone of the music video will be dark and serious. This will be shown through the video itself as it is in black & white to represent the moody theme and the music is grunge and is also moody. No specific narrative or storyline will be setting the video but it is just a band performing the song as the music video.

Inspirations I have analysed other music videos and live performances to give inspiration for my music video. The key ones I picked out were Muse- Animals (live), Royal Blood- Little Monster, Foo Fighters- Something From Nothing, Mumford & Sons- The Wolf and Oasis- Wonderwall where aspects of those videos feature the ideas I had for my music video such as split screen, colour correction, live performance and mirror imaging.

Inspirations Oasis- Wonderwall. Shot in black & white and features colour correction and split screen. ch?v=6hzrDeceEKc ch?v=6hzrDeceEKc Muse- Animals (live). Also shot in black & white and features a little part of colour correction with split screen. 9jIP7UVnwBo 9jIP7UVnwBo

Mumford & Sons- The Wolf features mirror imaging which can be effective for the music video. I think the music videos that featured black & white videoing (e.g. Royal Blood, Oasis and Muse) give off a certain mood and emotion and can create a serious tone. The colour correction used in 2 of those videos can make some things stand out. Using my music video as an example, it could be a guitar cable or a drum head that’s been colour corrected and manages to brighten up the video a little bit. Split screen can give the audience more things to focus on (like in the Oasis and Muse videos) and makes it more entertaining and the mirror imaging that was used in Mumford & Sons music video is a good editing technique that will entertain audiences even more. I feel that live performance is effective for a music video and yet simple (with Royal Blood, Foo Fighters and Muse as examples). It can also symbolise how good Nirvana were as a live band.

Target audience The music video will be aimed at fans of the band and the genre of music, predominantly males aged I created a questionnaire to support this DeI4wjgOiBlPdvh9f06T2_2BS3aY8UG7FtOoWT h_2BM_3D DeI4wjgOiBlPdvh9f06T2_2BS3aY8UG7FtOoWT h_2BM_3D

Resources For the music video, I require 2 microphones, a guitar and a bass with amplifiers and a set of drums. I think a live performance would be easy and simple as well as effective for a music video as a music video I have seen is Royal Blood- Little Monster and works well. I also require 4 cameras to get the best amount of angles needed and gather the most footage so 1 camera can focus on 1 performer and another can capture the full band so when it comes to editing, I can pick out which angle to get. One of the cameras shall be static whilst others will cover the band members and will be in operation.

Cast/crew I require 3 people to feature in the music video as the band and have also featured in my previous music video, I need 2 camera operators with one of them being a runner too. I shall be the producer, director and editor of the work as it is my idea so I know where the cameras will be positioned, what style I want the video to be in and how the final product should look.

Budget A small amount of money may be required in case any props have to be bought but I don’t think any money will be required. The small budget will also cover equipment and room hire but I don’t think it will be an issue as it shouldn’t cost and no costumes will be worn in the video.

Schedule I am aiming to finish my pre-production in 2-4 weeks during May, my production and shooting in 1 week at the end of May and 2-4 weeks working on the post production in the month of June.

Late ideas In the late stages, I watched a couple of music videos that use rotoscoping and I have thought about adding it in the editing stage but I’m unsure if I have enough time for it. The videos are Arctic Monkeys- Do I Wanna Know? & Royal Blood- Out Of The Black I also considered making the tone of music video a lot more serious and darker by including contact lenses for the band that blacks out their eyes but at this moment in time, I’m unsure about going ahead with this idea. I saw this in Muse- Dead Inside
