Current Changes in the Middle East

Tunisia Within the past year, Tunisia has made major changes in politics, the economy, and social status. Freedom of criticism, protest and a stronger mentality of people have grown. Corruption in politics and business has slowed. Police and internal security has made reforms and improvements.

Algeria Algeria is the second largest country in Africa, winning independence from France in the mid 19 th century. Ever since then, Algeria has struggled with Islamic powers and strength of government. Algeria is currently in struggle with neighbor Mali, and improving parliamentary elections.

Egypt Since the death of previous ruler, changes in Egypt have been fatal. A military government was established for safe keeping, and now the power refuses to give up its grip. The president, Mohamed Mursi, is also trying to push forth undemocratic laws into order and civil war is on the brink of explosion.

Libya About a month after a US ambassador was killed by local militia, Libyan government has made efforts for civilian control. Local militias have also made for attacks on the infrastructure of Libya creating problems for the government. The people cry for dismantlement of the militias, however, the government is doing little to stop them.

Saudi Arabia Class and power struggle are both involved with Saudi Arabia. Low pay for dangerous work in construction and oil refineries seem to have caused an outburst for many civilians demanding reform King and heirs to Saudi Arabian throne are dying due to health issues and is not able to find the next qualified king for the oil country.

Jordan Radical groups wanting change in the government have led protests demanding reform. Boycotts in the parliamentary election has caused stress within Jordan, where the Muslim Brotherhood is demanding critical change in the constitution.

Yemen Since early 2011, Yemen has been deeply divided and in economic turmoil. Violent uprisings have created numerous deaths, where the opposed is autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Extremist groups have made countless efforts for reform and kicking out the president for reform of the constitution and a better way in social status.

Syria Extremist rebels and part of Al-Qaeda has made attacks within Syria protesting democracy. Changing in government is not possible without struggle, however the Islamic terrorist groups have made it a more conflicting issue. Resisting aid from the United States and other groups have created an amounting conflict in Syria.

US involvement US involvement in Egypt could result in a positive or negative outcome. It is evident that President Obama has kept silent with the struggle in Egypt and refuses to bring up the issue. If the US does get involved this can lead to military confrontation with the militia control and create for dramatic reform in the government. This is all depending on the people of Egypt and what they want during the power struggle.
