Final exams and final grades

A note about homework and learning  Homework is to help you learn and review material.  Homework grades are important in this class.  Test grades are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT.  “Getting homework done” is important  LEARNING material in is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT  “Getting homework done” won’t help you on tests.  LEARNING MATERIAL will help you do well.  If you think homework is just about “getting points”, you are missing the point entirely.

Binders  Recycle old assignment sheets Must write down new activities & homework every day  Recycle most material from before winter break Keep everything after today  Keep (all available online): Binder description Class syllabus (course expectations) Lab report descriptions  ALL new handouts clipped into binder  New notes, warmups, etc – notebook  Label and organize everything by date

Absent reminder  If absent: Record assignment sheet from website before you return Get all handouts (see box) See me – this is your responsibility. ○ After school or during PASS. If you do not see me, you will not earn credit.

Course expectations - reminders  Grading: 55% tests/quizzes, 35% assignments, 10% participation (attendance counts)  No late work Exceptions: two late passes, ex. absences (see me)  Passes – put your names on them  ONE “free tardy” – then sign in for any more (detention)  PASS – sign up ahead of time  Electronics - keep in backpack/pocket This has become tiresome. Confiscated if I see them  Extra credit – one per month, up to 3  Food: NO FOOD in science classes. Drinks with lids ok.

Homework  Find copies of these right now: Course Description and Expectations - handout Binder Description – handout Don’t have them? Both online. Will need them.  Forms to get signed – passed out now!  Progress reports passed out now Tentative final grades  ABSENT THE DAY THIS WAS PRESENTED? GO TO NEXT SLIDE

 Please come see Mr. Welman to get your 2 nd semester passes (tardy, late, bathroom). Tell him you saw this slide by saying: ○ “the year is halfway over!”
