The Vision Framework Core ideology Core Values Core Purpose Envisioned Future BHAG Vivid Description

Our Core Values Build democratic skills & practices We believe in the power of democracy to create vibrant, equitable societies. We are committed to building effectiveness in democratic skills and practices through research, teaching and campus life. Embrace diversity We believe we live fuller lives and produce better work when we embrace diversity in all respects. We are committed to engaging the skills and energies of others and allowing each person to make his/her greatest contribution to public life Continuously learn & grow As part of an educational institution, and working with students, alumni, faculty and communities, we know that we learn as we teach and as we work. We are committed to nurturing the learning and growing process for ourselves and our partners, and will seek to improve and innovate in order to better achieve our objectives. Be passionate with a purpose We are dedicated to making a difference in the world, through our work and the work of our partners throughout Tufts and our host communities. We care deeply about justice and equity. We celebrate and share our purpose. Passion increases the energy and impact of our work. Act with openness and support We will operate with an open, collaborative style, and can be counted on to act with integrity. We know the well-being of one is intimately linked to the well-being of many. We support students, faculty and alumni to take risks and pursue their dreams, and we build on the efforts of others at Tufts.

Our Core Purposes To prepare students in all fields of study to be effective civic agents to build a more equitable world. To produce and disseminate new knowledge about civic learning and citizen participation. Core Purpose = Mission

Our BHAG It is the norm for students graduating from colleges and universities to get involved in their communities and to effectively engage in solving the world’s most pressing problems. Become a national leader for elevating the civic mission of higher education. Many other institutions adopt Tufts’ unique model. BHAG = Vision

Our Vivid Description Active Citizenship is infused into every part of the Tufts community to build a common purpose of civic responsibility. Civic engagement will mean a high quality education and is Integrated into the core academic fiber of Tufts. Tufts is the “go to” place for new knowledge about civic engagement. Tufts students use their civic skills every day, to tackle issues in their classrooms and residence halls and in their communities. Tufts alumni in all careers are innovative civic agents.

Our Vivid Description New faculty report that a key element in their decision to join Tufts is its commitment to fostering civic skills. Our host communities readily acknowledge that Tufts is an active and positive partner. Other universities actively solicit our guidance as they seek to transform their academic and campus life programs to embrace civic engagement. Undergraduate and graduate students around the country are graduating with an abiding commitment to being active citizens. Civic leaders around the world use knowledge Tufts has developed to elevate citizen participation in public affairs and civic education.
