Generalizations about Development Each child develops in their own unique way Every individual usually passes through every stage of development Each stage has specific characteristics/traits Growth and Development can be modified by conditions within and outside of the body

Areas of Development Physical development—includes muscle coordination, growth, size and proportion. Intellectual—Ability of the brain to take in and process information. Recognizing name, know a rattle makes noise.

Areas of Development Emotional—The ability to recognize and understand feelings and how to respond to them appropriately (jealousy because of new baby, love another person, afraid of the dark.) Social—A child learning and discovering the expectations and rules for interacting with others (sharing toys, appropriate words)

Developmental Presentations Infants 0-12 months Toddlers 1-3 years Preschools 4-6 years School Age- 7 and up Physical, Emotional, Social, and Intellectual developmental areas Activity/Lesson to teach the information
