My Digital Literacy Narrative!

US:official&biw=1440&bih=722&tbm=isch&tbnid=M5uXV47FPcEWyM:&imgrefurl= d=buN3qAwcp6az8M&w=520&h=362&ei=7EQvTuL5MpH4swP3ncDzDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=654&vpy=265&dur=2778&hovh=1 87&hovw=269&tx=177&ty=129&page=1&tbnh=118&tbnw=169&start=0&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0 My mom taught me how to compose and send s using Yahoo mail when I was in 2 nd grade so that I could keep in touch with my pen pal, Trisha, from Australia. Now I log onto my account every day. I get mails from parents looking for a babysitter, from SFSU, and from my sorority.

At my school, fourth grade is when students started learning to type. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we got to go to the computer lab and practice typing. Things got really competitive when my teacher timed how many words we could each type in a minute. The things I learned in that class are still helping me today. For example, I still place my fingers on the “Home Row Keys” before I start typing.

I used the computer lab a lot in 6 th grade to do research for assignments and type up the final drafts of my papers. I learned how to use Microsoft Word, how to use spell check, how to save files, and how to use a search engine on those computers.

I am embarrassed to say that I got a MySpace in 9 th grade and didn’t delete it until 11 th grade. This is the first social network I was ever a part of and while it allowed me to express myself through the “About Me” and other sections revealing personal information, it distracted me from doing my school work. n&biw=1440&bih=729&tbm=isch&tbnid=adCcUlnat- YavM:&imgrefurl= &docid=6dodOPN1KJMuBM&w=467&h=350&ei=3IIvTsWKCZCqsAPr- MgD&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=269&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=189&start=0&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0 &tx=92&ty=33

I got a Facebook in 10 th grade and am still completely addicted. I log in at least once a day either to cure my boredom, distract me from my homework, catch up with friends, or collaborate with people I have classes with about questions I have with the homework. While Facebook can sometimes be helpful with my school work, most of the time it does more harm than good. a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en- US:official&biw=1440&bih=722&tbm=isch&tbnid=YhSX0IpEyLi2OM:&imgrefurl= ne-social- networking.com/&docid=t7gxegT5PHe_TM&w=512&h=512&ei=AIowTtLLOfTdiALMhJWsB g&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=678&page=1&tbnh=118&tbnw=118&start=0&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429, r:7,s:0&tx=89&ty=54

In 10 th grade I took Spanish 3-4 and my teacher took us to the language lab at least twice a week. In here we used the computers to play games online to help us learn our vocabulary words and practice our verb conjugations. It was really helpful. networking.com/&docid=t7gxegT5PHe_TM&w=512&h=512&ei=AIowTtLLOfTdiALMhJWsBg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=678&page=1&tbnh=118&tbnw=118&start=0&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0&tx=89&ty=54

When I was in 11 th grade my school started using LearningPoint.org. All of my teachers used this site to communicate to their students through posting the homework assignments on the class calendar and updating grades once a week to let their students know how they were doing in the class.

iLearn has been a huge part of my life ever since I started attending SFSU. It is where all of my teachers post the homework, test schedules, syllabuses, online quizzes, and grades. It is important to my success in school to log onto iLearn daily. wtpriipM:&imgrefurl= S_Bg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=359&vpy=132&dur=392&hovh=119&hovw=238&tx=73&ty=78&page=1&tbnh=80&tbnw=159&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0

My freshman English 114 professor required us to use the the Academic Search Premier database to search for articles when we were doing our research paper. At first I thought it was annoying that we were not just allowed to search the web for information, but I had a change of heart when I saw all the great information that the database held. I now use the school databases for all of my research papers. um.jpg&imgrefurl= NdUiRqGCbo1O0=&h=202&w=280&sz=14&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=Bkyw6gAZT af6GM:&tbnh=114&tbnw=158&ei=r4swTsjDIoPKiAKSqfzABg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsfs u%2Blibrary%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox- a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en- US:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D722%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur =365&page=1&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0&tx=117&ty=77
