Alberto Giacometti ~The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.

Alberto Giacometti was born in Borgonovo, Switzerland, on October 10, His father was a post- impressionist painter and sculptor. In the 1930’s, Alberto Giacometti generally sculpted non-objective, abstract works.

He later began sculpting human figures with little physical features that appear solitary and alienated. Giacometti’s work became famous after a philosopher, Jean Paul Sartre, analyzed it. He was dedicated to solving “the mystery of human existence.”

In 1922 he moved to Paris at the Ecole de la Grande Chaumiére, under the sculptor Bourdelle. Later he studied in Archipenko's circle at the School of Arts and Crafts in Geneva. Much of his work is elongated figures with rough surfaces.

In he was awarded the Grand Prix National des Arts by the French government. In 1966 on January 11 he pasted away in Chur.
