1. August Herbin was a French painter.

2. He was born in Quiéw, Nord, in 29 th, 1882. He studied drawing at the Fine Arts School in Lille, from 1898 to 1901, while he was living in Paris.

3. The first influence of Impressionism and Post- Impressionism on him was visible in the paintings that he sent to the “Salon des Indépendants” in 1906. Gradually he had become a cubist painter. After, in 1909, he worked in “Bateau Lavoir Studios” where he met Picasso.

4. After producing his first abstract painting in 1917, Herbin called the attention of Léonce Rosenberg after World War I. Léonce made him taking part of the group of artists of Galerie de L’Effort Moderne and exhibited his work there on several occasions in 1918 and 1921. Herbin changed radically his way of painting, starting to use colored geometric forms painted in wood. We can look at this changing in National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. 5. Later on, Herbin put away his traditional way of painting landscapes, “still-lifes” and pictures connected to this period such as Bowls Players (1923, National Museum of Modern Art, Paris).

6. He died in Paris, in January 31 st, 1960. Children in Matisse Museum with works inspired by Herbin.
