Expressing likes and dislikes Use a dictionary to find out what these words mean

To ask If someone likes something Tu aimes les hamburgers? – Do you like hamburgers Tu aimes le vélo ou le ski? – Do you like bike riding or skiing?

To say you like something J’adore le chocolat. – I love chocolate J’aime bien le sport. – I like sports a lot. J’aime les frites. – I like french fries.

To say you dislike something Je déteste les hamburgers. – I hate hamburgers. Je n’aime pas les hot-dogs. – I don’t like hotdogs

To say you prefer something J’aime les frites, mais j’aime mieux le chocolat. I like fries, but I prefer chocolate. Je préfère le français. – I prefer French.

Note de grammaire Look as the sentence structure on the right Can you figure out when to use ne (n’)…pas? You put ne (n’)…pas around the verb aime to make the sentence negative – Notice the contraction n’ before the vowel J’aime le sport. Je n’aime pas le sport.
