The Impact of the Crusades: A.Weakens the power of the pope and feudal nobility B.Increases the power of kings C.Increases trade with the Middle East which benefits both Muslims and Christians D.For Muslims, left a legacy of bitterness toward Christians due to intolerance and prejudice throughout the Crusades E.Creates the conditions needed to begin the European Renaissance

5 Bubonic Plague CAUSES: ► Starts in Eastern Asia ► Fleas on rats transmitted disease to people ► Causes fever, swelling of lymph glands, red then black spots on skin ► Trading encouraged the western Asia and Europe ► Warm weather and poor hygiene helped spread it RESULTS: ► 1/3 to 1/2 of Europe’s people died ► Labor shortages because so many dead ► Feudalism was weakened ► Church loses some of its power ► Once the plague regresses, more food to go around caused people to live longer and be healthier
