2 History facts Every year on the 14 July the French celebrate the French Revolution. Peasants had to pay tax to the noble the King and the church. The nobility were exempt from paying most taxes. This caused division between the peasants and nobility resulting in the French Revolution Over 18,000 people were beheaded at the Guillotine When the royal family tried to escape France they were recognised because the king’s face was on all the coins so they did not get very far

3 Population and Tourism There are 66.03 million people living in France France is the most visited country in the world: 83 million tourists in 2012 Paris is the capital of France There is only one stop sign in the entire city of Paris It took 666 years to build the Louvre. It was originally a palace but is now the world’s most visited museum

4 The Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid monument in the world. 6.98 million in 2011 300 workers, 18038 pieces of wrought iron and 2.5 million rivets were needed to build the Eiffel Tower
