2.  The most important thing that started the revolution was the famine and poverty for the peasants.  France was divided into three estates. These were the clergy, nobles, and the commoners.  The clergy was treated terribly by the commoners and they were sick of it.  Also, a big cause of poverty was King Louis XVI. He had paid for troops to go America to help in the American Revolution.

4.  The estates combined into a national assembly. Which gave the peasants a big advantage.  The hanging of Louis XVI

6.  During the revolution, the French removed all the catholic churches in France.  People demolished churches, burned holy buildings, and renamed all streets beginning with the word saint.

8.  Called himself “The son of the Revolution.”  He was a good leader but did many things that went against what the revolution stood for.  These included making peace with the catholic church, made himself emperor Napoleon 1, and created an aristocratic class.  Although he went against some of the ideas of the revolution, he was still and important man.

10.  There was no real winner in the revolution but the upper class really came on top.  The clergy did not win but changed the way of life for the peasants and France.

11.  How ironic that Louis XVI perfected the guillotine. The very killer machine that ended his life!
