3 Y11 Options Changes to the qualifications affecting the new Y9s – Harder GCSE’s – Assessed differently Y10 options will be separate from Y9 options This will mean – – Y11 only classes – Less subjects will run – Possibly larger class sizes – Some subjects not offered as an option Drama ICT Electronics – There will be unfortunately some disappointment – Make sure you choose wisely – NO SWAPPING OF OPTIONS

4 Y11 Options Your options choices are dependant on – Your current timetable and the options you are currently completing Your attainment thus far (and your predicted levels) Your effort so far in Y10 Individual for everyone to ensure the demands of attainment 8 are met where possible – MUST DO AT LEAST THREE OF THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS HISTORYGEOGRAPHYSCIENCE COMPUTINGFRENCHSPANISH Important for you for college/ sixth form and job applications

5 In a nut shell - IF YOU ARE FOLLOWING TRIPLE SCIENCE – You will get two free options in Y11 IF DO ADDITIONAL SCIENCE IN Y11 (THIS HAS BEEN DECIDED ALREADY BY SCIENCE TEACHERS) You will get two free options in Y11 IF YOU WILL CONTINUE WITH CORE SCIENCE IN Y11 You may have at least one limited choice SOME STUDENTS WILL HAVE A VERY LIMITED OPTION CHOICE EVERYONE’S FORM WILL BE DIFFERENT AND PERSONALISED

6 Where do the courses lead? 6 th Forms College Training Employment with Training Progression routes available will depend on the level reached at 16. Students who achieve a Level 2 qualification will move on to a Level 3 course, i.e. A Level, AS Level, BTEC National

7 What next? The options book is available on the school website so you can research different courses that are available to you Your option form will be distributed to you after this presentation Speak to your form tutors, Mr McGuinness, Mr Roberts, Mr Gilbert or Mrs Grundy if you DO NOT understand the options you have available Help and support is available at 12.50-1.10 every day next week in the Library Speak to your parents and your subject tutors There is a parent drop-in on Wednesday 13 th January (5pm-6pm) Deadline for forms to be passed to your FORM TUTOR is Friday 15 th January 2016
