4 SSI Project Home Page Teacher Incentive Fund Login Log into the portal using your school email address On your first login, use the password: ssi2014 Make sure to change your password afterwards You may use the “Forgot your password” link to reset your password. You will receive an email with a link, please follow the instructions in the email to reset your password if you choose to.

6 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) The focus of this training is on the Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) for Observers The CSS-Observer Form contains 3 parts Part 1 Strategy Counts Part 2 Instructional Strategies and Behavioral Management Strategies Rating Scales Under the Instructional Strategies Domain there are 5 Dimensions Under the Behavioral Management Strategies Domain there are 4 Dimensions Part 3 Classroom Checklist Observation Requirements Each CSS Observation must be at minimum 30 minutes in length Perform the CSS simultaneously with the other direct classroom observation measure your school has selected For example, your school also uses the Danielson Framework for Teaching. Fill out the CSS Observer Form and the Danielson Framework for Teaching together during an observation The CSS must be used for each formal direct classroom observation you perform with your teachers

7 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) Observation and Portal Procedure Complete the Part 1 Strategy Counts and note taking during each observation After each observation, visit the SSI Portal and access the CSS platform Enter your final Part 1 Strategy Counts Enter your Part 2 Instructional Strategies and Behavioral Management Strategies scores Enter your Part 3 Classroom Checklist scores Submit your observation information View the CSS Observer Report Enter your final effectiveness determination scores for each dimension of the CSS Enter scores for any other direct classroom observation measures your school uses Meet with your teacher to go over their observation and provide feedback

8 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Create New Teacher Observations To create a new observation, click on Teacher Observations. Let’s create a new teacher observation

9 Select the school and school year of your choice Create New Teacher Observation

10 Select Start for the teacher being evaluated Create New Teacher Observation

11 Fill out the required fields. Click Next to continue filling out the observation Create a New Teacher Observation

12 Part 1: Strategy Counts Enter the total Individual frequency counts for each strategy Enter the total Group frequency counts for each Strategy

13 Observation Notes Enter evidence about the observation Assign area to which The evidence applies Click submit evidence for each Piece of evidence for this observation

14 Part 2: Instructional Strategies For each item, first record the Frequency Rating Then, record the Recommended Frequency for each item

16 Part 3: Classroom Checklist Complete Checklist Items and click “next” Check Yes or No if an item was observed

17 Observation navigation buttons Use “previous” to return to the previous page Use “Cancel” to return to the dashboard Use “Save Draft” to save the current observation and return to the observation dashboard Use “next” to continue filling out the observation

20 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) The focus of this training is on the Danielson Framework For Teaching (DFFT) for Observers The DFFT- Observer Form contains 4 Domains and 22 components Domain 1: Planning and Preparation Domain 2: The Classroom Environment Domain 3: Instruction Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Observation Requirements Each DFFT Observation must be at minimum 30 minutes in length Perform the DFFT simultaneously with the Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) For example, fill out the Danielson Framework for Teaching and the CSS Observer Form together during an observation The DFFT and CSS must be used together for each formal direct classroom observation you perform with your teachers

21 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) Observation and Portal Procedure Take notes on the DFFT during the observation and fill out the CSS After each observation, visit the SSI Portal and access the DFFT platform Enter your DFFT evidence into the SSI Portal Rate each component based on the evidence you collected Rate each Domain based on your component scores Rate the overall effectiveness determination for the lesson according to the DFFT Enter scores for the Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) and any other direct classroom observation measures your school uses Meet with your teacher to go over their observation and provide feedback

23 Danielson Observation Check the corresponding component(s) Provide details by entering text about the evidence Submit evidence

24 Danielson Observation Assign a value of 0 - 4 to each component.

25 Observation Submission Submit Observation Click on Save Draft to save your work and finish it later Click Submit Observation to submit the observation

26 Observation Submission Submit Observation A confirmation message is displayed The Completion date is displayed along with other options to edit and view.

27 SSI Project Portal What’s Next? Thank you for completing the SSI Portal Observer Training. As new features of the portal become available, we will provide you with updates and subsequent training. You can access these trainings via the Resources page on our project website: https://ssiproject.rutgers.edu/resources/ If you do not see a training for your direct classroom observational measure (McREL, Marshall, etc.) at this time, stay tuned. We are working very hard to add your information into our portal and will have this information available to you as soon as possible.
