Fetal Heart Circulation Before birth, blood from the fetal heart that is destined for the lungs is shunted away from the lungs through a short vessel called the ductus arteriosus and returned to the aorta. When this shunt is open, it is said to be a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). The PDA usually closes at or shortly after birth, allowing blood to course freely to the lungs. Foramen ovale- in the fetal heart, a shunt from the right atrium to left atrium http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8zLEfBecLg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IkAnVZpO5Y

Heart Murmur n Irregular heartbeat caused by increased in blood flow to the heart n an abnormal sound of the heart n sometimes a sign of abnormal function of the heart valves. http://www.youtube.com/wat ch?v=3NapobA3QbI

Arrythmia n irregular heartbeat n electrical impulses to the heart that coordinate heartbeats are not working properly, making the heart beat too fast/slow or inconsistently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= bxSAG-xV2Ys

Pacemaker n A pacemaker is a small device, about the size of a pocket watch, that's placed under the skin near your heart to help control your heartbeat. n Arrhythmias u the heart's rhythm is abnormal http://health.discovery.com/diseases- conditions/videos/heart-disease-and- cholesterol.htm

Myocardial Infarction or Heart Attack n Symptoms: uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing pain, pain spreading to the shoulders, neck and arms. n Chest discomfort and light headedness n Anxiety/nervousness n Paleness or pallor n Increased irregular heart rate

Myocardial Infarction contd. n Feeling of impending doom If you or someone you know is having these symptoms call 911! http://health.discovery.com/disease s-conditions/videos/heart-disease- and-cholesterol.htm

Angioplasty and Stenting n Angioplasty u procedure for expanding arteries that have become blocked n Stenting u small mesh tube that's used to treat narrow or weak arteries http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9 AqBd4RExk
