2 The Colonists came to the New World and settled in the 13 colonies. The Colonists were ruled by the British. The Colonists became angry and wanted to be free of British rule. The Loyalists were people in the colonies that suported King George and wanted to remain citizens of England. The Patriots were people in the colonies that wanted to remove the high taxes that King George forced them to pay.

3 The Colonists had to pay extra taxes for news paper, card games, land deeds, and much more. This was called the Stamp Act. The British removed all of the taxes except for the tax on tea. So the Colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped the tea in the Boston Harbor. As their punishment King George closed the Boston Harbor so supplies could not get in or out.

4 George Washington was a soldier from Virginia. he was the Patriot’s leader. Paul Revere was a silversmith he is famous for his midnight ride shouting the British are coming! John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington wrote the Declaration of Independence. Francis Marion was famous for hiding in swamps. On the Declaration of Independence John Hancock’s signature was the biggest because he didn’t like King George the most. Emily Geiger was a Patriot that was delivering a message one day but the British caught her. So she memorized the note and then ATE the note! It worked, the British let her go!

5 The Boston Massacre took place before the Revolutionary War. The first man killed in the Boston Massacre was a black man named Crispus Attucks. The first battle was fought at Lexington and Concord on April 19 th, 1774. The Battle of Kings Mountain is a famous battle in South Carolina fought in 1780. The Patriots hid behind trees while the Loyalists marched in a straight line. Then the Patriots shot and the battle began. It lasted for an hour and the Patriots won. After 8 years of fighting the Patriots won the Revolutionary War and got their freedom.
