Adaptations of Fungi Fungi obtain their nutrients by absorption which makes them heterotrophy Some Fungi are parasitic and obtain their nutrients from living hosts Fungi can reproduce sexually or asexually depending on the living conditions

Microsporidia Type of Fungi that infects only animals They are a phylum of spore – forming unicellular parasites One out of seven kinds of major phyla in the fungi kingdom

Blastocladiomycota Found in soil and fresh water habitats They feed on decaying organic matter One of the major seven kinds of phyla of fungi. They infect various aquatic and semi-aquatic plants, mosquito babies, and plankton.

Weird Facts Fungi Kingdom is more related to the animal kingdom than it is to the plant kingdom. Most fungi come in thread – like strands called hyphae Penicillin is produced by species of the fungus Penicillium chrysogenum.
