Presidents Lincoln/Johnson Radical (northerners) Republicans Southerners (ex confederates) Freed slaves South to join Union, freed slaves Punish the south, equal rights for freed slaves Join the union, get back property, opposed equal treatment for freed slaves Land, work, housing & rights

3 Reconstruction 1865-1877 Post war plan for peace & rebuilding the south Different versions proposed by Lincoln, Johnson & Radicals

4 Lincoln Reconstruction Who would support his plan and who would oppose it? Pardon to the South Restoration of property (except slaves) Accept emancipation Only 10% of voters have to agree to bring back South to the Union
