1 HVACR216 - Hydronics Pipe support and Pipe fittings

2 Pipe support materials A number of different supports are available for copper tubing.

3 Split rings Bell hanger J hook Clevis hanger Adjustable strap 2 hole pipe strap

4 Copper strap Two hole plastic strap Pipe insulator Vertical pipe support Strut cushion clamp

5 Common pipe fittings Many of the pipe fittings used in hydronic systems are the same as used in conventional water supply systems. It is important to familiarize yourself with all the types and styles of pipe fittings available It is also important to know the proper names of the various fittings available Many of the pipe fittings used in hydronic systems are the same as used in conventional water supply systems. 6 6 Couplings: (standard and reducing) Standard coupling Reducer coupling Couplings are designed to slip over the copper tubing

7 Elbows: 90 degree and 45 degree 90 degree 45 degree Same with these elbows. They are also designed to slip over the tubing.

8 Street elbows: (90 and 45 degrees) Street 90 Street 45

9 Street elbows: (90 and 45 degrees) A street elbow is a type of plumbing or piping fitting intended to join a piece of pipe and another fitting at an angle. The difference between a "street" elbow and a regular elbow is the nature of the fittings on either end. A street elbow has a female fitting (hub) on one side and a male pipe fitting on the other end. The advantage of the street elbow is that it can be connected directly to another fitting without having to use a short connecting piece called a pipe nipple.

10 Tees: (Standard and reducing) Standard Reducing Tee

11 Tees: (Standard and reducing) Tees come in many size combinations. In order to size a Tee correctly, you need to size the straight through sides first, then the branch. Making a mistake could order yourself the wrong part.

12 Sizing Tees 3/4 This is called a ¾ copper tee because all the sides are the same.

13 Sizing Tees 3/4 1 1-1/4 This is called a 1-1/4 x 1 x ¾ copper tee

14 Threaded adapters: (Male and female) Male adapter Female adapter These adapters have a hub on one end to slip over the tubing and a threaded connection on the other end.

15 Unions Unions offer the convenience of a mechanical connection, most commonly used when disassembly is required..

16 Ball Valves Ball Valves can come either “sweat” or “IPS”

17 Gate Valves

18 Boiler drain

19 Boiler Drain T

20 Baseboard elbow
