25 Shanghai---53 killed, 90 injured The death toll of a big fire in downtown Shanghai had risen to 53 by 9:20 a.m. Tuesday. More than 90 people injured are now under treatment. The 28-story building in Jing’an District, a densely-populated area in Shanghai, was being renovated ( 修缮 ) when it caught fire at about 2:15 p.m. Monday. The fire was mostly put out at 6:30 p.m. Local authorities sent 25 fire units and over 100 fire engines to the scene. Helicopters were used to rescue people trapped in it.
