9. Martin Luther 1483-1546 Was a German priest in the Catholic Church. Observes indulgences going on in the Church and begins to question the Church’s actions and authority. Posts his observations (95 theses) on the Church entrance in 1517. After reading the 95 theses, Catholics started to question the Church’s authority and wrongdoings.

10. Martin Luther Cont. 1517 Catholics, who questioned the Church’s authority and power became known as Protestants. These Protestants later created the religion of Protestantism. Martin Luther, was excommunicated by the Catholic Church. ML goes into hiding back in Germany and translates the Bible into German. Why is this important? Asks pal, Gutenberg to print Bible in German. Why is this important?

11. Counter Reformation Catholic Church admits their wrongdoings and declares that indulgences will no longer be a practice of the Church.
